Team Manager – Assessment & Intervention

Summary

An exciting opportunity for a qualified social worker with at least 5 years’ experience to join us as Team Manager of our Assessment and Intervention team.

You will manage a team of qualified social workers and family support workers and also work collaboratively with other Team Managers to fairly and effectively allocate cases and to monitor and manage capacity.

We are looking for a decision-maker, a leader and someone with the depth of experience and expertise to help us continually improve our service.

We are a small team and it is essential that we get the right person for this role, so although relevant experience and qualifications are a given, the right attitude is a must.

  • You hold a fully accredited DipSW/Social Work degree (equivalent to Level 6 NQF), are registered with Social Work England and have a management qualification or equivalent experience
  • You have a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in Children’s Social Care
  • Exemplary experience of complex case management including purposeful evidence-based interventions, analytical assessments and the highest quality of written work
  • Experience of motivating, leading, supporting and challenging social workers to develop their capabilities and performance. It would be ideal if you had an understanding of coaching models and techniques.
  • You can demonstrate experience of case presentation within a Court, multi-agency case conference and statutory panel context
  • You can demonstrate a detailed knowledge and understanding of legislation and statutory guidance, Knowledge and Skills Framework for Child and Family Social Work and a range of social work interventions, methodologies and best practice
  • You can apply your specialist knowledge in child care legislation, the Looked After Children system and Child Protection to plan and deliver a range of complex activities providing effective outcomes for children, young people and their families
  • High levels of experience and expertise in providing supervision of both casework and support of the emotional well-being of staff members
  • You have managerial skills including performance management relevant to social care
  • You can use quality assurance and audit systems and processes effectively to analyse the quality of the service
  • You are able to challenge areas of under-performance, poor practice or non-compliance and know when to provide support and when to take more formal action
  • You have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to deal with complex issues in a sensitive and appropriate way and can build rapport and relationships with children, their families/carers, your colleagues and other agencies
  • You embrace partnership working and understand the benefit of working closely with all professionals who contribute to the lives of children, young people and families
  • You have sound financial management skills, especially with regards to the management of finite funds and are able to effectively plan resources and then be flexible in making changes as required
  • You are committed to doing everything possible to achieve the best for all children, young people and families
  • You have a commitment to the highest of practice standards and continuing your professional development

 

The role includes

As Team Manager you will lead, manage and direct the Assessment and Intervention Team of qualified social workers and family support workers. The roles requires working in partnership with colleagues across Children’s Social Care, wider NELC departments and partners to provide a child-centred approach.

As a key player in the Children’s Services Management Team, you will also work closely with Service Managers to define operational delivery plans that ensure the efficient use of resources and with the wider management team to contribute to the continued development of the service. You will lead on service improvement models and work alongside other Team Managers to ensure a consistent approach and delivery.

You will work collaboratively with other Team Managers to manage the case allocation to Assistant Team Managers, who will then allocate to social workers within their teams. You will retain the overview of these allocations to ensure equity depending on competence, capacity, risk and the individual circumstances of workers. This includes working with other Team Managers to monitor and manage capacity across the service and moving resources as required.

You will be responsible for translating the wider service objectives and targets into team deliverables and individual objectives and targets for Assistant Team Managers and then monitoring and managing these objectives. As Team Manager, you are accountable for the quality and effectiveness of your team’s performance as measured by national and local performance indicators. This will be achieved not only through close monitoring but also by creating a working environment and culture that is positive, supportive and motivates and develops all members of the team so they can deliver best practice.

You will be accountable for finding, identifying, analysing and interpreting data and feedback received during complaint investigations, Ofsted inspections and audits and then ensure that any learning is embedded across the service.

You will promote, support and provide scrutiny for the professional student placement and ASEY programmes for newly qualified staff.

You will represent the Council on appropriate aspects of your operational area at a regional and local level, deputising for the Service Manager as required.
